Letter from Derek Lewis to Ms Joan Ruddock, dated April 1993:
Wolds Prison: Incidents of alleged assaults on police officers
The Home Secretary has asked me to write to you directly in reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking about two incidents which involved alleged assaults on police officers at HM Prison Wolds.
There have been two separate unconnected incidents of alleged assault on police officers. The first incident involved an officer who was visiting a prisoner in an official capacity. The prisoner has been charged and is currently awaiting trial.
The second incident occurred when a prisoner was being escorted into the prison's admissions building. Witness statements were taken, but to date no charges have been laid.
