HC Deb 19 April 1993 vol 223 cc38-9W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will place in the Library the environmental impact assessment and the results of consultations undertaken with local interest groups for the British aid funded Amlohri opencast coal mine, Madhaya Pradesh, India, announced on 25 March 1991.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

[holding answer 2 April 1993]: The British aid for the Amlohri opencast coal mine in India, announced on 25 March 1991, consisted of technical co-operation and spare parts for existing equipment. ODA's assessment was that this aid would offer a number of environmental benefits by improving the management of the mine and assisting the mine management to implement an environmental management plan. This plan was prepared for Northern Coalfields Ltd. in India and covers issues of potential sensitivity to the Indian Government and material which is commercial in confidence; such documents are not made generally available.
