Pursuant to their Written Answer on Prison Service Warehousing and Distribution on 22nd March (H.L. Deb., col WA 1) how many staff were issued with redundancy notices in September 1992, how many have now agreed to accept their withdrawal, and the total sum of public money which is to be paid to those who have not so agreed.
The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)In September 1992, 106 staff at Branston and 34 staff at Leeds were issued with redundancy notices. The Branston staff were invited to agree to the withdrawal of the notices and of these 45 have so far agreed. The total redundancy payments which are to be made to those who have not so agreed is £421,000. In addition, six of the 34 staff at Leeds wish to work at Branston and have asked for their redundancy notices to be withdrawn. This has been agreed. The total redundancy payments to the other 28 is £128,000.
