§ Mr. McLoughlinI am advised by the Department of Trade and Industry that the safety requirements for all non-industrial gas applicances were reviewed recently during the development of the EC Gas Appliance Directive, adopted on 29 June 1990 and due to come fully into effect on 1 January 1996. In accordance with the requirement of this directive, European harmonised product safety standards for all gas appliances within the scope of the directive are currently under consideration by the European standardisation body, CEN.
