§ Mr. MorganTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales when he expects the Welsh Office housing survey to be completed and published; what data he has collected in that survey in relation to numbers speaking or understanding Welsh; which company won the contract to carry out the survey; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesThe Welsh house condition survey is being undertaken in two stages. Two separate contracts have been placed after competitive tendering.
The first stage was a social survey which incorporated questions on housing, training and education, and the Welsh language. A copy of the questionnaire used to collect data about understanding of the language will be placed in the Library of the House. The contract for this survey was won by Research and Marketing Ltd. Survey fieldwork was completed at the end of 1992 and processing of responses is continuing. Results for the various topics covered will be published separately later thisyear.
The second stage will be a physical survey. The fieldwork will be undertaken in the next few months and results will be published by early 1994. The contract for this survey has been won by Bailey Widnell.
