HC Deb 28 October 1992 vol 212 cc706-7W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he expects to spend the balance of the know-how fund for Poland; for what purposes it will be spent; what sum of money is involved; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Since the inception of the know-how fund for Poland in 1989, expenditure has amounted to £24 million of our £50 million know-how fund pledge. On current plans the large part of the remainder will be spent by the end of the 1994–95 financial year. The bulk of the money is committed in the priority areas of banking and financial services (including accountancy and privatisation), management development and assistance with economic and industrial restructuring. There are also substantial initiatives in the areas of energy efficiency and local government.
