HC Deb 28 October 1992 vol 212 cc735-6W
Mr. Raynsford

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is his latest estimate of the likely expenditure in 1992–93 on the payment of mortgage interest for households in receipt of income support, the number of households receiving such assistance, and the average monthly payment per household.

Mr. Burt

The latest available information is contained in the Income Support Statistics Annual Enquiry for May 1991. The total amount was £949 million for 411,000 customers. The average weekly amount for those receiving full mortgage interest was £46.34, and for those receiving half mortgage interest (to which payments are restricted during the first 16 weeks of the claim for customers under age 60) was £35.61.
