§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what attempts have been made by Her Majesty's Government to ameliorate the shortfall in payments to the International Atomic Energy Agency for nuclear safety research and safeguards implementation.
§ Mr. EggarI have been asked to reply. The United Kingdom has played an active part in ensuring that priority programmes in the areas of safety research and safeguards implementation are excluded from the effects of any shortfall in contributions. The Government have also made extra-budgetary contributions to meet particular needs for the acquisition of safeguards equipment and to assist the agency's programme on the safety of aging reactors.
§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the United Kingdom permanent representative to the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency voted for Libya to be elevated to the board.
§ Mr. EggarI have been asked to reply.
Elections to the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency are held by secret ballot. It is not Her Majesty's Government's practice to divulge its voting intentions or actions after the event on such matters.
