HC Deb 27 October 1992 vol 212 c560W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what evaluation has been made by his Department of the implications of water pollution from closed coal mines.

Mr. Eggar

It is an offence for a mine owner to cause pollution of watercourses. The body with statutory responsibility for regulation of water pollution is the National Rivers Authority. I understand that the NRA has been reviewing data on water pollution from abandoned mines of all kinds and intends to publish its assessment in the next few months.
