HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 cc459-60W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the outcome of the annual World bank meeting held in Washington in September, and on any decisions made at that meeting about additional environmental expenditure.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have been asked to reply.

Finance Ministers reviewed the world economic scene, resource flows to developing countries and other issues including progress with the debt strategy and trade policy. On the environment, they welcomed the wide-ranging consensus reached at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. They noted that UNCED had called for additional funding to be channelled through existing institutions, including the global environment facility. They also agreed that continuing consideration should be given to an "earth increment" for environmental purposes in the negotiations for the 10th replenishment of the International Development Association.
