HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 cc434-5W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on how many occasions in the past 10 years the Government have made formal or informal representations to the South African Government about illegal activity by their employees or agents in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Since 1984 there have been six incidents involving South African diplomats on which we have made representations. These incidents involved drinking and driving and public order offences. Representations were also made over a break in at the African National Congress offices in 1982 and an attempt in 1989 to obtain the design for the Blowpipe missile and the arrest in April this year of two South African intelligence agents.
