HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 c488W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to involve the helicopter service from Belgium in providing a search and rescue service over part of the Dover straits, following his announcement about the future reorganisation of the search and rescue service; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norris

There are no plans to change the current well proven liaison arrangements between Dover coastguard and the Belgian authorities.

Under normal circumstances, the United Kingdom's air and sea search and rescue (SAR) resources will adequately meet the requirements of marine emergencies in United Kingdom waters.

In the event of a major incident in the Dover strait, under existing arrangements, the co-ordinating authorities of whatever nationality may call for the assistance of SAR assets from across national boundaries.
