HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 c491W
Mr. Kirkwood

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will take the necessary steps to change existing regulations to allow school ancillary staff to claim unemployment benefit automatically as soon as they start the long summer period during which they are unable to work; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Burt

We have no plans to do so. To revise the existing regulations on "recognised and customary" holidays would be contrary to the main purpose of insurance against unemployment which is to insure against a risk, rather than a certainty, of unemployment.
