HC Deb 26 October 1992 vol 212 c483W
21. Mr. Heald

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what consideration is given to conservation during the building of roads.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

We shall continue to ensure that environmental considerations are given full weight in the development of trunk roads.

We take account of the possible environmental impact of proposals even before they enter the roads programme, and we maintain that high degree of consideration throughout their development. A recent example is our delaying the construction of the A20 at Dover so that the Bronze age boat could be rescued.
