To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what information she has on the number of families who experience multiple unemployment.

Mr. McLoughlin

The labour force survey shows that, in spring 1992, the estimated number of families in Great Britain in which two or more people were unemployed (on the ILO definition) was 210,000. This represented 1.4 per cent. of all families in which there were at least two people aged 16 or over.
