HC Deb 19 October 1992 vol 212 c201W
Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimate he has made of the number of accidents which have occurred on motorways as a result of vehicles hitting tyre debris or swerving to avoid such debris.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

The information requested is not available. However of the 6,287 motorway injury accidents in Great Britain in 1991, 209 involved vehicles hitting an object on the carriageway that was not a vehicle load, a previous accident or an animal. This accounts for 3 per cent. of all motorway injury accidents.
