To ask the President of the Board of Trade for what purposes the fossil fuel levy has been used since it was introduced; and what sums have been spent upon each of these purposes.

[holding answer 26 November 1992]: The fossil fuel levy has been used to finance the above-market element of the price paid by the regional electricity companies for electricity purchased from generators contracted under the non-fossil fuel obligation. The levy receipts paid to nuclear and renewable generators have been as follows:
