§ Mr. HardyTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will introduce legislation to alter the electricity generation regime to provide that electricity produced from new gas-fired stations is sold through the non-franchise market and to prevent favoured access to the base load of the national electricity supply by those gas-fired power stations which produce at higher prices than 2.8 pence per therm.
§ Mr. Eggar[holding answer 26 November 1992]: The coal review is presently considering the market prospects for coal and the relative costs of coal and gas-fired generation. It would be wrong to prejudge the outcome of that review.
