HC Deb 30 November 1992 vol 215 c33W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will introduce legislation to alter the electricity generation regime to provide that electricity produced from new gas-fired stations is sold through the non-franchise market and to prevent favoured access to the base load of the national electricity supply by those gas-fired power stations which produce at higher prices than 2.8 pence per therm.

Mr. Eggar

[holding answer 26 November 1992]: The coal review is presently considering the market prospects for coal and the relative costs of coal and gas-fired generation. It would be wrong to prejudge the outcome of that review.
