asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many young people, under 18 have been detained on remand in Crumlin Road Prison in each of the last five years; and what was the maximum length of the remand period.

From January 1988 to 31 October 1992 the following number of persons under the age of 18 were received on remand (including those receiving a mixture of custody and bail) at HMP Belfast:

Many of those will subsequently have been transferred to the Young Offenders Centre, Hydebank. Figures are not readily available as to the period of custodial remand.
