Whether they accept that there is a need for a review by central government of the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 so that payment of compensation claimed under the Act does not fall unfairly on local charge payers.
The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)No. Policy on the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 was considered when the Government reviewed public order law in 1985. It was decided then that the provisions of the Act should remain in force. There are no plans for a further review.
