§ Mr. DafisTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action is currently undertaken by his Department to comply with the Food and Agriculture Organisation code of conduct on the distribution and use of pesticides.
§ Mr. SoamesThe Department complies with this code principally through the strict controls under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 which require that only approved pesticides may be advertised, sold, supplied, stored or used. In addition the new EC Regulation 2455/92 on the Import and Export of Certain Dangerous Chemicals incorporates the prior informed consent532W procedure, which is based on the principles in the FAO code. The Health and Safety Commission and Exectutive is the designated national authority for the regulation.
