HL Deb 23 November 1992 vol 540 c57WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What international action is being taken to place independent observers in Macedonia, to recognise the Republic of Macedonia, and to deter aggression from outside and interference in the internal affairs of Macedonia.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

A CSCE mission has been active in the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia since September. The best protection of the republic would be independence with the agreement of all its neighbouring governments. Mr. Robin O'Neill, acting as the presidency's special representative, is working to find a formula which will permit this.
