HL Deb 23 November 1992 vol 540 c55WA
Lord Tebbit

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they expect that paragraphs 3 to 9 of the protocol relating to the United Kingdom within the Treaty of Maastricht will come into effect.

The Earl of Caithness

Paragraph 2 of the protocol on certain provisions relating to the United Kingdom makes clear that paragraphs 3 to 9 of that protocol shall take effect if the United Kingdom notifies the council that it does not intend to move to the third stage of economic and monetary union. The protocol requires that the UK must notify the council of its intention in accordance with the timetable and procedure set out in Article 109j of the treaty.
