Mr. Betts

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the levels of capital expenditure in real terms in the public expenditure levels for each financial year for 1979–80, including the latest estimate for 1992–93 and the forecasts for 1993–94; and what percentage of total public expenditure they represent.

Mr. Portillo

Figures for central Government and nationalised industries' asset creation between 1986–87 and 1994–95 were published in tables 4.6 and 6.3 of the Statistical Supplement to the 1991 "Autumn Statement".

Figures showing total public expenditure were published in table 2.1 of the Statistical Supplement to the 1991 "Autumn Statement".
