To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his latest estimates of the number of(a) Japanese, (b) American and (c) German companies in (i) Clwyd and (ii) Wales; and how many people are employed by each of these companies.

The latest estimates are as follows:

  1. (i) Clwyd: Japan, 9 companies, 2,000 employees; North American, 29 companies, 6,000 employees; Germany, 10 companies, 500 employees;
  2. (ii) Wales: Japan, 44 companies, 12,000 employees; North America, 130 companies, 32,000 employees; Germany, 50 companies, 5,000 employees.

Employment figures for individual companies are commercially confidential.
