§ Baroness Davidasked Her Majesty's Government:
What was the expenditure on school books in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 1990–91 respectively in the following categories:
divided between the primary and secondary sectors.
- (a) total spending per local authority;
WA 24 - (b) per pupil expenditure per local authority;
- (c) total spending per pupil;
- (d) average expenditure per pupil;
§ Baroness BlatchThe available information on spending and per pupil expenditure on books and equipment is shown in the tables. It is derived from local education authorities' returns of their spending and their pupil numbers. The tables show combined figures for books and equipment because not all authorities' returns identify separately spending on books from that on equipment. Information for nursery and primary schools is not collected separately.
