§ Baroness Davidasked Her Majesty's Government:
What was the expenditure on books in colleges of further education in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales respectively in the following categories:
- (a) total spending per local authority;
- (b) per student expenditure (full-time equivalent) per local authority;
- (c) total spending per student;
- (d) average expenditure per student.
§ Baroness BlatchThe available information on local education authorities' spending on books and equipment in their maintained colleges of further and higher education in 1990–91 is shown in the table. It is derived from local authorities' returns of their spending and their student numbers. The tables show combined figures for books and equipment because not all authorities' returns identify separately spending on books from that on equipment.
