HC Deb 11 November 1992 vol 213 c788W
22. Mr. Bellingham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he next expects to meet representatives of the Association of County Councils to discuss the problem of itinerant new age travellers.

Mr. Baldry

I will shortly be meeting representatives of the Association of County Councils to discuss the Government's proposals to reduce illegal camping set out in the consultation paper, "Reform of the Caravan Sites Act 1968". These proposals do not address the public order issues which may arise when huge numbers of new age travellers congregate. Those issues are being considered by my right hon. and learned Friend the Home Secretary, in consultation with other Government Departments and chief police officers.
