1. HCHS covers all the services provided or managed by the health authorities concerned including hospital, community health, patient transport (ie ambulance), blood transfusion and other services.
2. The table excludes expenditure by family health services authorities and the special health authorities for the London postgraduate teaching hospitals which, although funded by the Department, is not strictly attributable to particular regions. Expenditure by other special health authorities and bodies comprising the NHS, and expenditure met directly by the Department are generally incurred on a national rather than a regional basis, and are also excluded.
