To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress has been made on the simplification of tax for the self-employed.

Mr. Dorrell

A further consultative paper entitled "A Simpler System for Assessing Personal Tax" has been published by the Inland Revenue. This takes forward the discussions on simplification of the personal tax system. Copies of the paper have been placed in the Library of the House.
