To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many women are serving life sentences in Scottish prisons.

[holding answer 2 November 1992]: As at Thursday 29 October 1992, there were six women, all adult prisoners, serving life sentences in Scottish prisons.

Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the average time spent in prison of(a) male and (b) female prisoners convicted of the crime of murder and all other serious offences giving details of the offence and the time served in each category.
