HC Deb 03 November 1992 vol 213 cc186-7W
Mr. Hutton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many children have been admitted into the United Kingdom in the current year, as refugees from the former Yugoslavia; what additional resources the Government have made available to local authorities and voluntary organisations to help with the cost of caring for those children; and whether she will make a statement.

Mr. Yeo

The Home Office is responsible for policy and information on asylum issues. Detailed information could be provided only at disproportionate cost. However, I understand that between 2 August and 31 October 1992 a total of 901 dependants—mainly children—arrived in the United Kingdom as dependants accompanying asylum applicants from the former Yugoslavia and have been temporarily admitted. No additional resources have been made available by the Government to local authorities or voluntary organisations.
