HL Deb 20 May 1992 vol 537 cc42-4WA
Lord Judd

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their policy towards the future of the International Tropical Timber Organisation, in the context of their commitment to a successful outcome to the forthcoming United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development in Rio.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

The Government will be working for the agreement of a statement of principles on the wise management of the world's forests at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development which the Prime Minister will attend in Brazil in June. We consider that the International Tropical Timber Organisation, which is concerned with sustainable management and conservation of tropical forests, has a central role to play in the practical application of these principles.
