§ Mr. RentonThe Office of Arts and Libraries does not itself directly fund individual exhibitions. The OAL provides grant-in-aid to the national museums and galleries which mount a number of major exhibitions each year. In addition, the Arts Council provides funds to organisations which arrange exhibitions as part of their programmes.
To celebrate the United Kingdom's presidency of the European Community in the second half of 1992, £6 million has been allocated by the OAL towards a European arts festival. Some of this will be used to mount a variety of exhibitions in both national and regional museums and galleries.
