To ask the Minister for the Arts what recent meetings he has had with East Midlands Arts representatives to discuss local ventures.

I met the chairman and director of the East Midlands arts board on a number of occasions last year, when a range of subjects were discussed.

I was delighted to be able to congratulate them personally on 1 October last year when the Arts Council announced that the east midlands region had won the competition to be the venue for the Arts 2000 year of dance in 1993.
