HL Deb 10 March 1992 vol 536 c49WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of their opposition to the slaughter of African elephants they are satisfied that the penalties imposed on poachers and ivory traders are a sufficient deterrent.

The Earl of Caithness

Penalties imposed on poachers and illegal ivory traders are a matter for the countries concerned, but we nevertheless commend the strenuous efforts made by some African countries to control poaching.
