HL Deb 10 March 1992 vol 536 cc57-8WA
Lord Sefton of Garston

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have decided where to relocate the staff of the Department of the Environment currently at Marsham Street.

Baroness Blatch

On 6th February, my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment announced the decision to demolish 2 Marsham Street, the present headquarters building of the Departments of the Environment and Transport. So far as the Department of the Environment is concerned, the Secretary of State asked officials to draw up proposals for moving a substantial number of HQ posts away from central Westminster and in particular to examine the opportunities for moving some posts to Docklands. Work is proceeding on these matters. At present no decisions have been taken. The future accommodation needs of the Department of Transport are being considered separately.
