HC Deb 30 June 1992 vol 210 cc519-20W
Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from non-Home Office police forces, or their officers' federations, about their inclusion within the scope of the inquiry into the role of the police officer that he has instigated.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The chairman of the British Transport Police Federation and the Defence Police Federation and the Secretary of the United Kingdom Atomic Engery Authority Constabulary Federation have written to me to suggest that the forces whose members they represent should be included in the scope of the inquiry into police responsibilities and rewards. My right hon. and learned Friend has told them that the inquiry will be asked to cover specifically only the 43 forces in England and Wales, the eight Scottish forces and the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the detailed terms of reference of the inquiry he announced into the role of the police officer.

Mr. Charles Wardle

My right hon. and learned Friend will be announcing the terms of reference and membership of the inquiry very shortly.
