However, it is unlikely that the pattern of disposal either for 1990 or 1991 will vary much from that for 1988–89 which is set out in report No. 26, a copy of which is available in the Library.
The two liquid industrial waste licences are due to be phased out by the end of this year, as is one for power station flyash which is classified as solid industrial waste. The other licences in this category are for colliery by-products. Disposal of these materials on the beaches will end in 1995 and at sea by 1997 unless application of the planning system demonstrates that no practical alternative means of disposal exist. Sewage sludge dumping will end in 1998.
