asked Her Majesty's Government:

What percentage of offenders released from young offender institutions are reconvicted within two years, and what are the figures for (a) males under 17; (b) males aged 17 to 20 inclusive; (c) females under 17 and (d) females aged 17 to 20 inclusive; and,

What percentage of adult offenders released from prison after serving sentences of imprisonment are reconvicted within two years, and what are the separate figures for men and women respectively.

Figures for adults and young offenders released in 1986 are published in Table 9(a) ofPrison Statistics 1989 (Cm 1221), a copy of which is in the Library. We plan to publish information for those released in 1987 shortly in a Home Office Statistical Bulletin.
