HL Deb 15 June 1992 vol 538 c1WA
Lord Belhaven and Stenton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In view of the fact that they are currently mounting a publicity campaign in Poland explaining the requirements of the Immigration Rules to the United Kingdom, whether the rules in question apply to nationals of all non-EC and Commonwealth countries, or whether there are specific rules which apply to Polish nationals only and, if so, what those specific rules are.

Earl Ferrers

There are no provisions of the Immigration Rules which apply only to Polish nationals. The purpose of the publicity campaign, which is being conducted in Poland prior to the lifting of the visa requirement for Polish nationals from 1st July, is to ensure that as many Polish nationals as possible are aware of the requirements which they will need to meet in order to satisfy an immigration officer that they qualify for admission to the United Kingdom, and so keep to a minimum the number who make an expensive journey to this country only to be refused entry at our ports.
