HL Deb 15 June 1992 vol 538 c5WA
Lord Orr-Ewing

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make representations to the United States authorities to secure the future of recreation facilities at Greenham Common air-base.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

No. The US Government only dispose of equipment which is surplus to their agencies' requirements. Welfare and recreational equipment, which is purchased from US Air Force welfare funds, is considered very important to the morale of their service personnel and any equipment which is portable will be removed and used elsewhere.
