full-time education, (b) joined a youth opportunities scheme or youth training scheme or (c) entered a job; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Forman

The tables give details of the numbers of school leavers by age intending to(a) stay in full-time education other than school, (b) join YTS and (c) enter employment by individual regions in England since 1985. The year 1989–90 is the latest year for which the data are available.

The numbers going to youth training schemes have been collected separately only since 1988–89; prior to this the figures would have been included in the employment category.

Information prior to 1985 is not readily available in the format requested, that is, by age and region.

The figures for Wales and Scotland are the responsibilities of my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and for Scotland respectively.
