To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement about the number of applications before his Department for the construction of new combined-cycle gas turbine generating stations.

My right hon. Friend is currently considering 12 applications for his consent under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 to construct new combined-cycle gas turbine generating stations.
