To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions have been held between the Government and representatives of the United Kingdom drinks industry relating to

the programme on substance abuse of the World Health Organisation, particularly as it affects alcohol advertising and marketing in third-world countries.

No such discussions have been held.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what has been the British financial contribution to the programme on substance abuse of the World Health Organisation in the current financial year; and what are the projected contributions for the next two years.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

We have contributed £200,000 since the programme was established in September 1990. Our financial contribution in the current financial year has not yet been finalised and projections for subsequent years are not available.
