HC Deb 09 June 1992 vol 209 cc121-2W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make it his policy that the strict control applied to sites of special scientific interest, including ancient woodland, will prevent any destruction by quarrying of Carmel woods in the Gwenlais valley, Dyfed.

Mr. David Hunt

Policy on planning controls over sites of special scientific interest was published most recently in Welsh Office circular 1/92. Any application for planning permission affecting the site mentioned must be determined on its own merits in the light of that policy. However, an application for registration of an old mining permission under schedule 2 to the Planning and Compensation Act 1991 is currently being considered by the Minerals Planning Authority.
