HL Deb 08 June 1992 vol 537 c74WA
Lord Cocks of Hartcliffe

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ask the Health Education Council to approach Gordon's Gin regarding their stated intention to increase the consumption of gin by young people.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

The British Code of Advertising Practice is designed to ensure that the advertising of alcohol does not appeal to young people under the age of 18. United Distillers have given an assurance that the advertising of Gordon's Gin will respect both the letter and the spirit of the code. Complaints about advertisements should be referred to the Advertising Standards Authority, the Independent Television Commission or the Cinema Advertising Association.
