HL Deb 04 June 1992 vol 537 c72WA
Lord Rix

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What information they have on the staffing of special schools following the advice issued by the Department of Education and Science in the autumn of 1990; and whether they are satisfied that local authorities are following that advice.

The Minister of State, Department of Education (Baroness Blatch)

Each special school completes an annual return which sets out its staff numbers which provide the data for the tables inStatistics of Education: Schools. Circular 11/90, on staffing for pupils with special educational needs (SEN), emphasises that there can be no blueprint for the staffing arrangements in individual schools since so much will depend on the particular circumstances and needs of the pupils and their special educational needs. It is for local education authorities to determine the allocation of resources for individual schools.
