HC Deb 04 June 1992 vol 208 c631W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is Her Majesty's Government's policy towards independence for Bougainville; and what help Her Majesty's Government are giving Bougainville in the aftermath of the damage to the environment by copper mining.

Mr. Goodlad

The Government regard Bougainville as an integral part of Papua New Guinea and views the Bougainville problem as an internal matter of Papua New Guinea. We are not aware that the Papua New Guinea Government is seeking any help from foreign governments in connection with copper mining on its territory.
