HC Deb 02 June 1992 vol 208 c526W
16. Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the involvement of service personnel in the Lockerbie clean-up.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Although the tragedy happened almost three and a half years ago the excellent work done by the services under such distressing and demanding conditions has not been forgotten. In all, more than 8,000 man-days were contributed by the services during the 27 days of the operation, with a peak of more than 700 on the day after the crash, on 22 December 1988. The majority of effort was directed towards the search for bodies and wreckage.
